Involuntary Treatment of Behavioral Health Patients

The Georgia State Office of Rural Health and Draffin Tucker partnered together on February 18, 2020 to provide the free webinar – Involuntary Treatment of Behavioral Health Patients. The webinar was presented by Arnall Golden Gregory LLP’s healthcare practice group attorneys, Neil Hoffman and Ryan Kerr. This webinar is intended for current and past recipients of the Rural Hospital Stabilization Grant.

Overview of the Program:

Georgia ranks near the bottom of all states in access to mental health care, resources, and insurance. Many hospital emergency departments lack the capacity and capability to serve individuals with serious mental illness, but sometimes these facilities are a patient’s only available mental health treatment provider. This presentation will include an overview of Georgia’s involuntary mental healthcare pathway, common misconceptions concerning Georgia’s behavioral health laws, and healthcare providers’ obligations under EMTALA.
