Recently, the Office of Inspector General issued a report titled “Most Critical Access Hospitals Would Not Meet the Location Requirements If Required to Re-Enroll in Medicare.” This report seems to attack the “Necessary Provider” regulations. If the Necessary Provider status was removed by CMS, then most current Critical Access Hospitals would not qualify for cost based reimbursement.
