Draffin & Tucker’s Jeremy Wilson recently authored an article entitled “Avoiding Problems That Often Arise with Complex Ownership Structures,” for Family Business magazine’s November/December 2015 issue. In the article, Jeremy discusses best practices for high net worth families that have several business enterprises and a complex entity structure.
He says that while the organizational structure is foundational in segregating assets, providing asset protection and effectuating estate planning, much of the value can be lost if the enterprise is not properly managed. Therefore, Jeremy touches on the basics of structuring intercompany loans and calculating member distributions, to the more sensitive issues related to family dynamics and disproportionate ownership interests.
