The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is required to collect data every
three years on the occupational mix of employees for each short-term, acute care
hospital that is subject to the inpatient prospective payment system, in order to
construct an occupational mix adjustment to the wage index.

This survey should report data for pay periods ending between January 1, 2025, and
December 31, 2025. Specifically, the survey’s begin date cannot be earlier than
December 17, 2024, and the survey’s end date cannot end later than December 31,
- The occupational mix adjustment calculated from this survey will be applied to
the federal fiscal years 2028 through 2030 wage indexes.
The deadline to submit the completed Excel version of Form CMS-10079 (2025) to Medicare Administrative Contractors via email is June 30, 2026. CMS instructions for CY 2025 Occupational Mix Survey state: HOSPITALS MUST complete and submit to their Medicare Administrative Contractor.
